We finished our first book club book, The City of Ember! It is safe to say that everyone enjoyed the book and our book discussions were a success! Students got really involved in the book and I was impressed by their dedication to the characters and story line. Everyone has really grown as a reader! Here is a couple photos of a book discussion.
Once we read the book, we watched the movie version. The book and movie were quite different from each other. Your child had to write an essay describing the similarities and differences between the two as well as explain which version they liked better and why.
Our movie day wouldn't have been right if we didn't choose jobs like the children in Ember did at the beginning of the book. Here is a photo of everyone holding up their "new jobs."
So, what's next???
We have just started our new book club books. For our second book club, I have decided to have 4th and 5th grade read different books. 4th grade is reading The Phantom Tollbooth and 5th grade is reading A Wrinkle in Time. Both books are fantasy, award winning classics written in the 1960s.
